The movie “Water Flows Towards the Sea” will be adapted from a popular manga, starring Suzu Hirose as a “mysterious office worker who never smiles.”
The acclaimed manga artist Tajima Archipelago, who swept the manga awards with the popular manga “Children Don’t Understand,” which was also adapted into a film in 2021, will now have their masterpiece manga “Water Flows Towards the Sea” brought to life in a live-action movie adaptation.
The story begins with an unexpected encounter on a rainy day. It revolves around Sakaki, a 26-year-old office worker who has closed off her heart due to past events, leaving her somewhat detached as she goes about her daily life. The film delicately portrays her gradual transformation as she experiences interactions and connections with other people. Suzu Hirose will portray the protagonist, Chisa Sakaki, in the film. Known for her roles in successful movies and dramas like “Wandering Moon” and “Life’s Stopping Place,” Suzu Hirose will take on the challenging role of Chisa, a cool and complex character who refrains from smiling throughout the film. This will be her only solo leading role in a film in 2023.
